Musically speaking, what was the most significant challenge with this album ? All these works demand an uninterrupted intensity. They unfurl in a single breath. There is no time-out. Even in the studio, you have to remain completely committed. Liszt's B minor Piano Sonata represents the greatest challenge: it is a work lasting nearly thirty minutes without a break, and it is the foundation upon which I structured the entire programme. I have been working on this piece for several years. It encompasses every character and emotion, while the other works on the album explore different facets of it: benediction, struggle, solitude, love… Then one shifts towards the opposite extreme with Scriabin's Piano Sonata n° 9 op.68 (Black Mass), where all positivity disappears. Each work is there for a precise reason, and everything converges towards the Liszt Sonata. After it, there is no room for anything else. SALOME JORDANIA 21
