22 PASSAGE: A SPIRITUAL ODYSSEY Do you feel transformed after this ‘spiritual journey’? Yes, in a sense. One of my greatest inspirations was Mahler's Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen,( ‘I am lost to the world’). At some point in our lives, we all experience that feeling of solitude and loss. I could not include it on the album since it is not a work for piano, but its spirit nourished the entire project. This album is a journey from a sense of loss towards the revelation of hope. Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude, inspired by a poem by Alphonse de Lamartine, raises many questions about divine strength, rebirth, and the possibility of beginning anew. For me, the coda of this work is the most comforting moment on the album: something pure and uplifting, as though offering a sign that we are not alone. There is also a reference in the title to 2001: A Space Odyssey. I have always been fascinated by the idea of the microcosm and the macrocosm: this film explores the outer universe, space itself, whereas I wanted to explore our inner universe. But to answer your question, I do feel transformed, if only because I now know what it costs to record music of such density.
