20 PASSAGE: A SPIRITUAL ODYSSEY The title of your album, ‘Passage’, suggests a transition. Is this debut album a rite of passage for you? I wanted to tell the story of a person’s journey through trials and tribulations, and moments of deep self-questioning, sometimes in their most extreme form, until they attain a state of profound understanding. This might bring to mind an inner struggle, a combat, but also something more spiritual. The word Passage can be understood on different levels, and that is what gives the programme its unity. I like words that open onto several meanings. Passage can be understood on three levels. Firstly, as a rite of passage, since this is my first album. Then, passage as transition, as an inner transcendence, which is why I added the subtitle A Spiritual Odyssey. It is about crossing a threshold, undertaking a voyage. Finally, ‘passage’ also refers to the extremely difficult technical passages, which in itself represents a challenge. From a recording perspective, nothing came easily.
