Between mysticism, darkness and a quest for transcendence, she reflects on the genesis of a programme of rare intensity, conceived as a true inner odyssey. Liszt’s Piano Sonata in B minor, Scriabin’s ‘Satanic Poem’… for this debut solo album, why did you choose such sombre repertoire? I don’t know whether I would describe it as sombre. To start with, I had imagined a much more joyful programme, but I found myself drawn to these works… Once La Dolce Volta had agreed to the project, I felt free to fully embrace this somewhat bold idea .I was deeply moved by the label's willingness to take such a risk. The B minor Piano Sonata is one of the major works in the piano repertoire. These various pieces speak of solitude, faith, spirituality and mysticism: there is a balance between light and darkness. In life, two emotions govern us: love and fear. This programme explores those two extremes.”
