MENAHEM PRESSLER 23
And that is how the adventure began, at the Conservatoire National Supérieur
de Musique et de Danse de Paris, in September 2014: Menahem Pressler, a living
legend of the piano, was there to record the first disc of his complete set of the
Mozart sonatas. Mozart whose music has always accompanied him on his way
and for whomhe has a special fondness, since itwasMozartwho brought together
for the very first time the founding fathers of the Beaux Arts Trio, of which he was
the pianist for fifty-three years, many of them alongside the French violinist Daniel
Guilet and the American cellist Bernard Greenhouse.
So the feeling of witnessing a unique experience, each moment of which was
historic,wasoverpowering.Anditwasstillfurtherenlivenedbyanintergenerational
combination of energies, since the delicate mission of recording the sessions was
entrusted to students from the Conservatoire’s sound engineering and Tonmeister
classes, thus giving them an opportunity, at the very start of their careers, to share
an experience they will carry with them throughout their professional lives.
