However, to my knowledge, no one has yet written an arrangement for a string ensemble. Does the cello play exactly the same part as the bandoneón? Not quite, because the bandoneón is a polyphonic instrument, whereas the cello is not. The large cadenza at the beginning of the second movement, written in chords specific to the bandoneón, cannot be played as such on the cello. Olivier Calmel managed to distribute the notes of those chords across the ensemble, bringing in the other players alongside the solo cello in this cadenza, where the bandoneón plays alone in the original score. It works extremely well!
