OLIVIER LATRY 19 Before discussing the works recorded on this album, could you give us your impression of the Rieger organ of the Philharmonie de Paris? In Paris, we are extremely lucky to have a concert hall with extraordinary acoustics. And it is the setting for an organ that magnificently meets the needs of the most diverse instrumental or vocal forces: it can accompany the orchestra, blend in with the various sections of the orchestra or stand out above them. But the richness of its sound palette also makes it possible to perform a substantial proportion of the solo repertory; all the registers are admirably represented, whether it be the foundation stops, the mixtures, reed stops with both fairly dark and very brilliant colours, and so forth. I must admit that I was overwhelmed, during the recording, by the exceptional musical quality of the organ, which is an ideal vehicle for music like this, conceived in essentially orchestral terms.
