VANESSA WAGNER & WILHEM LATCHOUMIA 29 Can you say something about the recording at the Arsenal in Metz? Vanessa Wagner — It’s a venue I’ve often played at: I was artist in residence at one time, and I also made my earlier disc of music by Liszt and Pärt there. It’s one of the finest acoustics in France. Wilhem also knows the hall well, having given concerts and made his recording of Prokofiev’s Cinderella there. We were lucky enough to be able to go there in the summer of 2020, despite the pandemic. Deprived of concerts, we found ourselves with a sense of urgency and a wild desire to play, the joy of being in a concert hall, on magnificent pianos. It was an absolute delight to record together: everything was simple, and we were in the company of François Eckert who had already produced our solo recordings and knew us well. Wilhem Latchoumia — I would say that it was as if we were breathing in unison, and that’s the best way to make music together.
