And also to detach himself from programmes that may smack of dissimulation: rare works, violently personal ones, transcriptions behind which the performer hides in the hope that he or she will not be noticed too much. ‘Maybe it was time to make a recording that is not essentially characterised by its uniqueness?’ It is indeed easy to imagine that, confronted with the discographical forest, a musician may be awed by the abundance of discourse; as if everything had been said about certain works. As if nothing relevant or even a little personal could be added to the copious exegesis.
