But the art of André Isoir is above all the art of a humanist, always accessible to others, to his pupils, his public, his own era. A simple and straightforward man, he plays in the same way. On his countless tours in France and elsewhere in the world he likes to talk to local organists, but also to his listeners, whom he invariably amuses with unexpected and witty jokes. Sometimes, after concerts, the guardians of certain prestigious organs ask the soloist to sign the ‘visitors’ book’. Isoir, facetiously or sarcastically, would occasionally scribble in it ‘Lu et approuvé’ (read and approved), as if on an official document! 36 BACH ∙ THE ORGAN WORKS
