27 CÉDRIC PESCIA What are your feelings when you play the six Suites in concert ? I feel as though I am traversing the entire range of emotions that the composer was able to express in music, from the most joyful to the most sorrowful. Various shades of sadness, melancholy, and nostalgia are explored there, not forgetting humour, which we do not naturally associate with Bach but which reveals itself in certain dances. The only emotion I have never perceived in this cycle is violence, though it can be found in the Passionen (Passions), for example. Performing the complete cycle truly makes sense. In concert, I like to play through the Suiten (Suites) without applause, although I do allow myself a break halfway through. As an experience, it is for me an immense voyage into my inner self.
