17 EVA ZAVARO, CLÉMENT LEFEBVRE Clément, Eva chose to make this album with you. How did you react to her proposal? Clément Lefebvre: I agreed at once! She had selected two composers whom I adore, but whose works I’ve rarely played. For a long time I had a strange relationship with the music of Fauré: I loved it, but I didn’t dare touch it. I came to him quite late, through his first chamber works. Eva and I have frequently played his Piano Quartet op.15 together. We discovered musical affinities in our search for colour, in our way of speaking through sound. I felt drawn to his Second Sonata, which is much less popular than the First. As for Szymanowski, who is still too rarely performed in France, the desire to immerse myself in his music came from listening to some of my pianist friends. When Eva told me about her project to bring the two men together in a programme focusing on the theme of night, I found this sensorial approach very convincing.
