22 EVERLASTING SEASONS Is the very notion of a cycle important in your approach to music? The perception of time passing and anything that has a cyclical element to it speak to me deeply. Hence my interest in repetitive music. I’m a naturally nostalgic person, and I think life is more beautiful when it’s enriched by the layers of memory. I like the idea of a loop, of a perpetual recommencement, neither completely the same nor completely different, like the seasons themselves. I always try to build programmes in which the works resonate with each other, colour each other. That’s how I got the idea of devising my own cycle. For the first time, I almost feel as if I’m telling you a story. Coming from a family with a literary bent, I’ve always been receptive to the written word, and the idea of inventing my own story at the piano is not at all alien to me.
