19 THÉO FOUCHENNERET Gabriel Fauré died a hundred years ago. Here we are, in 2024, in a year of commemoration. Why is this important to you? Théo Fouchenneret: The music of Fauré was the source of my first musical emotions and my first interpretative urges. As a child, I dreamt of sightreading his songs with my older brother, the violinist Pierre Fouchenneret. I started practising the nocturnes at a very early age. The Third was on the programme of my very first concert in Paris. I was already so mad about his music that, at the age of seventeen, I decided to enter the Gabriel Fauré International Competition in Pamiers (Ariège), his home town. I won the First Prize, awarded by a jury chaired by Jean-Philippe Collard, a great interpreter of the composer. The competition offered me an exceptional opportunity to satisfy my passion for his music. Celebrating the anniversary of his death this year is another opportunity I wouldn’t have missed for the world!
