25 You navigate between genres on this album. Is it fair to say that the most interesting musicians are often the ones who go off the beaten track? Adrien — Some musicians in that category have definitely been a great source of personal inspiration for us. Yo-Yo Ma, for example . . . You can listen to his Bach Suites, his Beethoven Sonatas and his recordings of the great cello concertos, and then suddenly there’s a country album, followed by a project on the ‘Silk Road’ or a disc of jazz, always with the same high artistic standards and a genuine emotion you can feel. The same was true of the violinist Yehudi Menuhin, who built bridges between cultures by collaborating with the Indian sitarist Ravi Shankar. Being open to other styles of music enriches and nourishes us. To change angles and perspectives allows us to call ourselves into question in musical terms and therefore to progress. Our way of music playing changed significantly. Maybe it even becomes more colourful, deeper and freer. For us, this is the embodiment of being a very contemporary musician: being able to draw on the riches of all forms of music and build up our own artistic worlds over the years.
