Music, music, music as well as music ! He may be the artistic director and the sound engineer (a tonmeister, as he is called in Germany) for the most prestigious classical musicians, Francois Eckert is a music-lover first. For three decades he has worked with prestigious conductors (Boulez, Herrweghe, Norrington, Langrée, Barenboim…), soloists (Ciccolini, Eschenbach, Savall, Steier, Duchâble, Aimard…) and composers (Xenakis, Berio, Stockhausen, Grisey, Murail…).
François Eckart always keeps in mind that without the score and the interpreter his work would be merely anecdotal… A given, perhaps, but a truth not always espoused by some of his colleagues who are convinced they can transform sludge into gold thanks to a special recording technique they alone know the secret of. A fascinating topic indeed…. |
